The presentation will discuss how quality data can be misused if the basis, method or precision of the method that generated the data is not understood.  Also, the basics of proper round and significant digits will be discussed.  The presentation should help quality professionals better understand the data they are presented with and how to ask the right questions to make sure they understand and properly use data.

Dave Conley has 34 years of experience at Newport News Shipbuilding, working in Engineering Design and Quality departments, and is currently the Manager of the Laboratory Services Department at the Shipyard.  He is a professional engineer with bachelors and master degrees in Mechanical Engineering and MBA.  He is also a certified Quality Engineer and Quality Manager via ASQ.  As manager of the laboratory he ensures the laboratory works to the general requirements of ISO 17025 and maintains the accreditation of the laboratory for testing to the AIHA and VELAP standards for industrial hygiene and environmental testing in several processes and also NAVSEA standard for calibration to ANSI Z540.1.
